A Little Paradise at Little Butterfly!

So my wife Melissa googles “Best beaches in the World”, and we find Anguilla. And then after hours researching possible places to stay on this postcard-perfect-beach-paradise island, we find Little Butterfly. And what a great find it was!!! It’s not directly on the water, but I would argue it’s better than being on a beach. Little Butterfly has privacy, space, tennis courts, a friendly dog to protect and keep us company occasionally, a kitchen (oh, a stocked kitchen that was so helpful and wonderful), a nicely air conditioned bedroom, a nice large bathroom, beach chairs, a cooler to take to the beaches, an exercise room with modern equipment, a ping pong table, and more! I don’t want to sound like I’m exaggerating, but Little Butterfly had it all, and it was perfect for what we were looking for! Janine and her staff exceeded our expectations. (a special thanks to Anthnel and Erlene, super friendly, professional, and helpful. And Cypher (sp?) was also extremely friendly and a great listener). I already mentioned that our kitchen was well stocked. We had a large fruit tray, juice, water, cereal, yogurts, bread, snacks, rum punch (who does that?!) just to name a few things. I probably overdid the emails before our visit, and Janine replied to every one, usually within a couple hours! She helped us with a rental jeep, suggestions on what to do, where to go, where to eat, etc. She treated me like family from the first email to my 47th email (smile). She even helped arrange a couple surprises to help us celebrate our wedding anniversary. Simply put, we were taken care of better-than-we-deserved, and given much more than we paid for at Little Buterfly. Suggestions for a week on Anguilla (and feel free to contact me): Meads Bay was our favorite beach, followed by Shoal Bay (Maunday’s Bay is also stunning). Ok, all beaches are “Wow”, we went to 10 of them and repeated our favorites the last 3 days. Restaurants recommended would be Veya, Dolce Vita, Straw Hat, Tasty’s, Sandbar, E’s Oven, and our fav–Blanchard’s Beach Shack. We’ve been blessed to travel to many wonderful places (Aruba, Jamaica, Curacao, Roatan, Barbados, Belize, Vieques), and the only reason I mention that (sorry if it comes across as a travel snob, smile) is to say that we are able to make some comparisons…….and Anguilla has THE best beaches in one location than anywhere! Melissa and I have never repeated an anniversary trip. Now I am not so sure. And that’s not only because of the stunning beaches, but it’s also Janine’s fault (smile). So in closing, I recommend Anguilla, and without hesitation I recommend Little Butterfly as THE place to call home while you are there!

A perfect stay at Little Butterfly in Anguilla

Our second stay at Little Butterfly was a perfect as our first! Janine takes care of all of the details of your booking right from moment one and she’s more than willing to answer all of your questions and to make whatever arrangements you may need from car rental to transportation. If you’re someone who visits Anguilla because of your desire to get out and about and explore the island, then Little Butterfly is the perfect place for you! It’s centrally located on the island, it’s close to The Valley and all of the island’s stunning and pristine beaches are only a short drive away…..take your pick and try a different one each day! The house itself is beautiful and fully equipped; everything you would ever need is there including chairs and umbrellas to bring to the beach with you. Before your arrival, Janine will ask you what kind of food and snacks you like and then she’ll stock the fridge….and I don’t mean just with a couple of items…..each time we’ve been there, we’ve had a full complement of breakfast food, fruit, snacks and drinks. It’s a service that you may not give a lot of advance thought to, but you certainly appreciate it once you arrive and discover you won’t have to go to the grocery store for days!! :) What more can I say? We love it! All factors considered; location, amenities, cleanliness, service, price and comfort, we honestly think it’s absolutely one of the best accommodations on the island! I’m a bit conflicted in giving it such a good rating because I’d prefer that it doesn’t become too popular and unavailable when we’d like to book it!! If that happens, then I suppose Sunset Homes will just have to build another, equally stunning guest house! ;)

Perfect private paradise

If you enjoy experiencing an island vacation privately and without the trappings of a resort, this is the place for you! We spent eight nights at the Little Butterfly in January of 2016. Janine’s apartment is perfect for a couple or solo traveler. Her husband, Sugar George, is an architect and designed this home as well as many others on the island. The apartment is attached to their main house, but designed in a way that provides complete privacy with your own remote-controlled gate to the property. The friendly handyman is accessible and addressed any concerns immediately and the housekeeper even did our laundry. Not only is it spacious with an open concept, it is quiet and has everything you could possibly need. Erlene met us at the airport, and with our rental car waiting for us at the airport; we followed her to the house. She had a take-out dinner waiting for us. Also, there was a fruit bowl on the counter and another one in the fridge, a can of coffee, breakfast items that we had requested plus more, even a bottle of wine! The full kitchen is huge and well equipped. There is a sprawling patio with lounge chairs, patio table and chairs, and another area to sit near the entrance to their fitness center. Tennis courts are in front of the patio, if you like to play. There is a distant view of the ocean and St. Martin as the backdrop. Very pretty. The king-sized bed was very comfortable – I don’t think we ever slept so well in our entire lives! The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub, a rain shower, and a beautiful vanity with a glass bowl sink. We highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants the conveniences of home, but also wants the independence of creating your own vacation. We enjoyed the many beaches, the fantastic restaurants, and the cool entertainment that Anguilla offers. The Little Butterfly was the perfect place to call home while exploring this island paradise!

Our 2 weeks stay in your beautiful home can be summarized in one word! PERFECT!

People we will remember and look forward to seeing again
Everyone was so helpful and eager to help
Ray of sunshine smiling on us
Friendly in everyway
Eating dinner with you and your family
Children that are a joy to know
Taking home wonderful memories

Thank you so much for your hospitality! Sincerely

“Home Away from Home”

I travelled to Anguilla for the first time in December of 2014. I had no idea what I was in for, and I had never been or even heard of the little island of Anguilla. I knew it was going to be an adventure for sure. Staying at Little Butterfly Villa was more special than I can express. To say I found a home in a new place would be an understatement. Instead, I found family, love, kindness, generosity, and warm care. The arrangements in and of itself, were marvelous. Truly beautiful and splendid. Not a piece of the apartment villa was left without special accent touches and beautifully designed features. I still wake up dreaming about those views of the St. Martin mountains in the distance. But what hit home the most was the hospitality and warmth I was welcomed with. This lasted for more than the week-long’s stay and was something I could take with me for a lifetime. The generosity of Sunset Homes, and the Edward’s family is something un-matched, and does not come in an orderly week-stay or vacation package. Everything I needed was accompanied for. There is no place I have ever travelled to where I felt more at home, more comfortable, and more relaxed. It made being able to experience a new place, truly magical. I’ll never outlive the gratitude for this place, or for Sunset Homes. I have a coffee mug and beautiful pictures hanging on my office to remind me daily how eager I am to get back there. When you travel, you always come back with a new found piece of yourself. For me, this was the realization that travel doesn’t have to be about leaving home. It can be about finding it. With love & regards, And warm wishes of Visiting soon.

Wonderful trip, perfect home base

We traveled to Anguilla for the first time and were very glad we chose to stay at Little Butterfly. The accommodations are great. I was surprised at how large the space is – bigger than it appears in the pictures. Everything worked very well, including the A/C in the bedroom. We were there in off-season (late August/early September), so it was very hot and we appreciated the A/C at night. We kept it off all day while we were out at the beaches, and it cooled off very quickly when we got back in the evening. We used the gym, and it has a high end treadmill and a nice assortment of weights. The ping pong table was fun too. The housekeeper did our laundry for us a couple of times during the week, which was extremely helpful because we carry on our luggage and pack lightly. The location was great and a short drive to either side of the island. Renting a car is a must to get to all the fun beaches. Since we were there in the off season, we had nearly every beach all to ourselves. Also, I can’t speak highly enough about our host, Janine. She was extremely responsive by email as we planned our trip, and stocked the villa with some food and drinks before we arrived, which was a very nice touch. Also, I forgot my favorite hat in our rush to leave on the last day, and she graciously shipped it to me in the U.S. I would definitely recommend staying at Little Butterfly.

“Home Away from Home”

This is the place to stay. Great for couples or traveling solo (as I did). Good location in ( middle of island). Less than 15 minutes. drive from Meads Bay, and 20 minutes drive to Shoal Bay. You will need a car to get around. You can see the island of St. Martin/St. Maarten from the kitchen window and outdoor seating area. The Little Butterfly is very clean and well laid out villa. Very private, but just a short drive to a local market and good restaurants. Villa assistant Erlene White was very helpful and friendly. She helped me with getting settled in, answering questions about the island as well as the best market to get my groceries. “She’s great”. Premier Taxi & Tour Services & Bicycle Rental did a nice job in helping me getting around. There’s a restaurant within a 10 min drive of the villa called “Tasty’s”. It’s that and more. The food is good and not expensive. Smokey’s (at the Cove) is another place to eat great for lunch, right on the beach.

 “The Little Butterfly that Soars”

We recently visited the beautiful island of Anguilla for the third time and stayed at the Little Butterfly for the first time…and it certainly won’t be our last! It’s a rare gem of stunning accommodations and exceptional value on the island.

Right from the start, everything about the booking was easy and effortless. The homeowner, Janine, is warm, friendly and incredibly helpful from the first inquiry right through to the end of the stay.

The Little Butterfly is situated in the center of the island with a beautiful view toward St. Martin. Though it’s not a waterfront property, its location is perfect for driving to any other part of the island. Anyone who’s been to Anguilla knows that another stunningly beautiful beach is only a short drive from any part of the island. Each day, we’d chose a different beach or two, and it never seemed more than a few minutes from the house.

The house itself is amazing and luxurious with beautiful, high-end finishes. It’s location on the hill makes it particularly susceptible to the cooling trade winds and it never felt hot or humid. The beautiful bedroom is air-conditioned in case you’re ever feeling a bit too warm at night. Though the house is attached to the owner’s residence, you’d never know it. Little Butterfly has it’s own gated entrance and it’s been designed and built so it seems the owner’s place is simply higher up on the hill behind the house. Believe me, it’s completely private with absolutely no impression that others are around. Beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, sunscreen and even a cell phone were all provided too!

Upon arrival on the island, Erlene met us at the airport and took us to the house where the fridge was stocked beyond what I had requested and our dinner was warming in the oven…fish and chicken from a local take-out and it was absolutely delicious!!

Our stay at Little Butterfly exceed all of our expectations in every way and it will be our accommodation of choice when we return.

We just returned from 18 days in Anguilla. We stayed in the “Little Butterfly” apartment, which is on the ground floor under the owner’s villa. It is the only apartment there so is very private. The property is surrounded by a wall with a gate and guarded by two big, very friendly dogs so we felt very safe. It is in the George Hill area, a little west of the main town looking out over St. Maarten. Not on a beach but that is what we prefer since we would drive to different beaches each day depending upon the wind direction. The island is small and all beaches are less than a 15-minute drive from the apartment. The beaches are fantastic, some of the best we have ever seen, with warm clear water. We prepared most of our meals in the apartment and the kitchen was great, with top-of-the line appliances. There are three good-sized supermarkets and many smaller markets and we had no problem finding the groceries we needed. Food prices were quite reasonable for the islands. There are many very good restaurants but their prices are pretty high. The apartment owner and housekeeper were very helpful and promptly attended to any request. They arranged our rental jeep and it was at the apartment when we arrived. The apartment is very spacious and beautifully decorated. It was a great vacation and we would highly recommend both the island and the apartment.

“Fantastic Vacation at this Wonderful Place”

My husband and I just got back from 2 weeks at Little Butterfly. Wow! Loved it!!! The Villa is gorgeous and spacious and luxurious! My husband is a chef and loved the well-stocked expansive kitchen, and we ate most of our meals at home. There’s a lot of grocery stores not too far away for your staples, and we loved the fresh fruit and vegetable road-side stands. We got fresh fish from the Fish Depot and live lobster from the pier at Scilly Cay (Island Harbour). Of course you need to have a car to get around and the Villa owners had it waiting for us when we arrived, and a sweet woman who helped orientate us and had take-out dinner there for us as well as a beautiful fruit platter and bottle of wine. The fridge had food in it for our breakfast the first day. We went out every day to a different beach. We really liked ‘The Cove’ (make sure you eat at Smokey’s and there was a live band @ lunch), Rendezvous Bay (check out the Dune Preserve), Mead’s Bay (we ate at Blanchard’s Beach Hut–really good!), and of course Road Bay (Sandy Ground). We wanted to take the boat out to Sandy Island but the waves were too high both times we went there. But the weather overall was amazing!!! Out of 14 days it only rained twice, and one of the times was at night. It is so hot and dry (between 81-85F) all the time. There’s a tennis court at Little Butterfly and we played every morning before it got too hot, and ping pong in the late afternoon (in the gym). What we really liked about Anguilla is how friendly and nice everybody is and also how quiet and laid-back it is. There aren’t any high rises and no crowds on any beaches. There are no shopping malls or duty-free shops or strips with jewelry stores. On our last day, after we took the ferry over to Marigot, St. Martin, we took a taxi to Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten and yikes! Culture shock! There were 5 cruise ships in that day and wall-to-wall people on every street, in every shop and umbrellas 3-deep with tons of people in the water and on the beach. That’s not what we like and it made us really appreciate how wonderful and truly relaxing our stay was in Anguilla and at Little Butterfly.

“Very Comfortable Stay & a Good Location”

We spent 7 night at Little Butterfly and we really enjoyed it!!
It’s a very comfortable house (it´s the “apartment” of a big house where the owners live) and very independent. On your arrival, you see fresh flowers in the apartment and your fridge with good food inside. House is very well maintained and living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom are as nice as you can see in the pictures here.

Location is also very nice, since even when it is not on the sea side, the views are nice, and you are 10 minutes driving to anywhere in the island (of course, you always need a car in Anguilla), as you are in the heart of the island.

We do not know if we will be back into Anguilla since there are many places to visit in the world, but if we do, we will try again Little Butterfly!!

 “Pampered Like a King”

I stayed overnight in this beautiful villa apartment. Janine met me at the ferry terminal, and from first minute with hugs, we became friends. The villa conveniently located just in a center of the island. I rented a jeep (very reasonable price, and good quality car) from CIG Car rentals Yvette and explored the island with comfort. When I returned to my apartment, I noticed flowers and fresh fruits on my table, fridge stocked with bottle of wine and soft drinks, as well milk and muesli for my breakfast. Large rooms well decorated with art, unique furniture from Bali, over-sized bathroom, large living room with flat screen TVs, lot’s of electronic accessories to make music or entertain. Very quiet and fresh.
